Here are ATC uses of the latest carves. Over the holidays, I visited family in the San Francisco Bay Area. Scoured Urban Ore and the Center for Creative Reuse for goodies with my wonderful sister. We went to my first live ATC swap hosted by Carla Cryptic. These ATCs were made for that event. The ATC on the right bears witness to US Imperialism. The background is a 1899 illustration from the Spanish American War era during which the US slaughtered thousands of Filipinos. The cartoon depicts Uncle Sam trying to teach the unruly Philippines, Cuba, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The little picture connected with the brad depicts President McKinley grabbing the primitive Filipino (note how Africanized the depiction is - common imagery used then). How different is the rationale of "the White Man's Burden" of bringing democracy/civilization to the "backward" from our rationalizations now?
Now on to prep for the Charm Swap www.dawnsellers.typepad.com/oh_so_charming
